“Once you've seen a little bit of life, you realize it doesn't matter. What matters most is the mindset you take into it. What you extract from the situation, the relationships you develop while you're there.”
— Joseph Greco, Founder & President, PALIO, Inc.
This week during The Chad Carden Podcast, I sat down with my friend Joe Greco, and if you’ve ever met Joe, you know he brings a mix of intensity, humor, honesty, and perspective that’s pretty unique. I’ve known him a long time, and this episode reminded me why I’ve always respected the way he approaches life and leadership.
During our conversation, Joe talks about the moments that shaped him — the setbacks he didn’t see coming, the opportunities that slipped away, and the experiences that force you to rethink who you are and what you're capable of. What I appreciate most is that he talks about all of it without pretending he had it figured out in the moment.
We also got into the story behind the Palio, the 700-year-old Italian horse race that inspired the name of his company. It’s an incredible metaphor for how most of our lives work: days, months, sometimes years of preparation… all for a window that might only last a minute and 12 seconds. Joe explains it better than I ever could, but it’s a reminder about staying ready for your moment, whenever it shows up.
Here's a quick look at what we cover:
- What Joe learned from not getting into the Naval Academy, and why it became a major turning point
- Why perspective shapes everything, especially during tough seasons
- How Wall Street shaped the way he thinks, especially around resilience and discipline
- What he does when he feels off-center, and why leaders need honest recalibration
Joe’s journey isn’t linear, and that’s what makes it so powerful. There’s a lot in here that leaders will relate to, especially if you’ve had one of those moments where life didn’t go the way you planned, but in hindsight, it probably needed to.
If you’re in a season where you’re reevaluating your path or simply wanting to get better at leading yourself and others, this episode is worth the time.
